Memories of the Aud: Part 4

June 18th, 2009 | by Vance |

Even the last fight in Memorial Auditorium history was…memorable.  The Hartford Hurricanes and our Buffalo Sabres, April 14th, 1996, yes, the last game at the ole Aud.  (That doesn’t mean the series is done, how could it?)  Backup Carolina Whaler goaltender Jason Muzzatti says “alliteration be damned!” and drops the blocker and glove with blueliner Gary Galley.

Who knew that even in 1996 guys wearing shields would get ridiculed for fighting with shields?  Gary Galley was ahead of his time.  As for old Mr. Muzzatti, I wonder if knew what he was doing, foreseeing that he’d go down as starting the last fight in the Aud.  Wonder Rob Ray ever thinks about that, gets all amped up on Mountain Dew, and just wants to find Muzzatti for holding a memory that should rightly be his?  I hope so. I hope so.

Oh the end of that clip, to see Pat LaFontaine tied up with Jason McBain about makes my day.  What a man.
