Sabres Development Camp Details

July 2nd, 2009 | by Vance |

The Sabres have released details for their annual Rookie Development Camp, this year being held at Dwyer Arena on the campus of lovely Niagara University.  Being held from July 6th through the 10th, these open to the public sessions will from from 3 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, while on Friday the open session runs from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

But that’s not what you’re interested in.  You want to know who’s going to be there.  Well, check out the Camp Roster here, and I can give you some highlights.  There’s going to be a grand total of 41 players in attendance, ranging from guys who have great chances to make the team like Nate Gerbe, Tim Kennedy, Chris Butler and Tyler Myers all the way to undrafted free agents.

Some guys I look forward to not being able to see but get to read scouting reports after its over?  Forward Philipp Gogulla will be making his first North American appearance after building his game over in the German Elite Leagues.  1st round draft pick Zack Kassian will be in attendance, as well as Marcus Foligno and the rest of the draft class.  And one last intriguing prospect; Dennis Persson, after finally leaving the Swedish Elitserien league last year and joining the AHL’s Portland Pirates for their playoff run, Persson will get his first taste of North American hockey.

These camps are great to allow the staff, both those in Buffalo and Portland, to get to know the young kids, assess their talent, and diagnose areas of improvement.  I really hope a certain number of players turn heads next week *COUGH MYERS COUGH* and get the invite to training camp with the big boys.

You can almost taste it…hockey season is coming.
