Sabres News & Notes From the Weekend
July 6th, 2009 | by Vance |If you couldn’t tell, I’m not much of a weekend poster, especially when it falls on holidays. Spent the weekend at the AT&T National down here in Washington D.C, taking in the sport half of the NHL is playing right now.
But there was some news to be had over the weekend, including Sabres Left Wing Clarke MacArthur filing for arbitration. Arbitration is a fickle beast, if you’d recall the 1 year, $5 million contract that the 3rd party handed Daniel Briere a few years back, essentially pricing him right out of Buffalo. The arbitration hearings run from late July through August, but teams and players often strike up a deal before those contentious hearings have to take place. There’s nothing quite so alienating for a player than hearing why he’s not worth more money to his own team.
Don’t forget that the Sabres Development camp begins today (though today’s session is not open to the public) and continues through this week. If you’re in the area of Niagara University, go check it out.
Other news around the league? Sure.
- If you haven’t been following the Chicago Blackhawks and the qualifying offer story, you haven’t been following hockey.
- Rick Nash goes from making serious threats to Blue Jacket for life in a 24 hour span.
- Colorado got younger, while LA got grittier, when Captain Canada himself, Ryan Smyth, was moved for Kyle Quincey and some scraps.
- Oh God yes, a new video sequence from EA Sports on NHL10, which for whatever reason, I’m still saying NHL O-10. Oh well.
