Rookie Development Camp: Day 1

July 7th, 2009 | by Vance |

The Sabres have released a short video of the closed session yesterday held at Niagara University.  Kevin Sylvester talks with Tim Kennedy, Tyler Myers, and Marcus Foligno, while getting some glimpses of the drills etc.  Not too much to write home about, but it’s all we got at this point.

WGR550 has a write up on Day 1 as well. They said Harvard’s Alex Biega turned the most heads at camp, playing much bigger than his 5′10” frame would indicate.  The 5th round pick of the 2006 draft played a stand up blueline and made his presence known.  Looks like the kids are learning.  Sabres prospects have Biega as the 18th rated guy in the system.

Other good news?  Tyler Myers showed some offensive prowess and said all the right things.  He’s looking for a roster spot, no doubt about it.  Perhaps he’s actually that “replacement” old Scott Burnside was talking about.  He currently sits at 6′7” 220 lbs, still probably on the light side, but then again, he’s still just 19.

How can you not be psyched that Chris Butler is watching video of both Nik Kronwall and Mike Green to fashion his game?  Smart move Mr. Butler.

Bad news?  Zack Kassian missed day 1 with a foot injury.  Haven’t heard if we’ll get to see him at all this week.  But since Die By The Blade will be there, I’m sure we’ll find out.

One last thing to mention, most of these YouTube videos I post up can be found here at this channel.  It’s a pain to get ‘em up there, but if you ever wanna look back at ‘em, there you go.
