Well, What Did I Say?
July 20th, 2009 | by Vance |With the Sabres signing Sekera and MacArthur today, and Kaleta’s next week, I thought maybe I could use a post to take a look back at my predictions from last week. Well let’s see how I did.
What did I say about Kaleta?
Kaleta made $500K last year, so with a modest raise I’d expect a deal, for who knows how many years, at around a $650K cap hit. To keep Kaleta in the mix…it’s worth it.
Well hey, we got him for even cheaper than I thought we would. $550,000 next year is a solid price for a guy who brings energy and chutzpah every night.
What did I say about MacArthur?
Based on Kumelin’s deal, I would have to say that Mac will get a 2 year deal worth $1.33 – $1.4 million per.
Well, Mac landed the 1 year, $1.4 million (per WGR) contract via a salary arbitration hearing. Got that one right, but hopefully I didn’t get that “souring” part right too.
Well, one last player, Andrej Sekera, the young, still developing offensive blueliner. What did I say about him?
Let’s say a 3 year deal, worth $3.5 million total; cap hit of $1.167 million.
Well, I apparently overvalued him a bit, and Sekera’s desire for a long term deal. That two year deal he scored today is valued at $750,000 in year one, and $1.25 million in year two. So all in all, not that far off.
Now we’ve got 1 more guy to worry about; Drew Stafford. Remember we were talking about comparing him to Ryan Callahan’s contract, maybe he’ll come cheaper than that, since that’s the trend so far.
