Playing Armchair GM: Fantasy Draft
July 22nd, 2009 | by Vance |So one of my good writer friends, James T. O’brien, he of CycleLikeSedins fame, brought up this idea to me a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to help spread the word. Since the announcement that in EA Sports NHL10 would be bringing back the fantastic “fantasy draft” mode, James wondered if he brought together 30 writers, representing all 30 teams in the league, conduct a fantasy draft, filling out an entire roster, how it would work out.
Well after bouncing a number ideas around, from how the draft would work to how the teams would be judged, from salary cap issues to the inclusion of KHL players, the draft is finally getting started. And yes, yours truly will be playing the role of Darcy Regier, and by that I mean I’ll be doing the exact opposite of him, I hope.
Well the entire draft order isn’t even posted yet and already that cat has been left out of the bag, as Alex Ovechkin has been selected 1st overall by the Calgary Flames. I’ll be posting updates as the draft rolls on, with probably exposes on my selections and why I selected them, etc. It should be a fun time.
The unfortunate part? I was lucky to garner pick #26, yawn, but at least I’ll grab #35 as well. Keep and eye out for these posts, and be sure to check out James’ updates over at CycleLikeSedins. Or check out the draft message board with the ongoing picks and progress, let alone the shit talking and general snark.
