Sabres Sign J-P Lamoureux

July 30th, 2009 | by Vance |

From the AP Report

Former Grand Forks Central High School and University of North Dakota standout goalie Jean-Phillipe Lamoureux has signed a one-year contract with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

The former Hobey Baker award candidate played last season with the Alaska Aces in the East Coast Hockey League, and was named the league’s rookie of the year and goalie of the year. He led the league in wins and set the ECHL record for shutouts in a season.

Good for him. He had strong numbers for his ECHL squad last season, posting a 33-16-2 record, with a 2.29 GAA and .923 save percentage. That record number of shutouts? 8. The Aces lost in the ECHL Kelly Cup finals to Washington affiliate South Carolina Sting Rays. Looks like with the departure of Adam Dennis, Jhonas Enroth has a new backup netminder in Portland.
