Updated: Adam Mair Undergoes Surgery

September 1st, 2009 | by Vance |

Sabres center Adam Mair underwent successful arthroscopic hip surgery today, according to, once again, the Buffalo Sabres Official Twitter account.

@SabresDotCom Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced that Adam Mair underwent successful arthroscopic hip surgery. He is expected to be out a min of 6 weeks.

Now this explains the over signing of forwards this offseason, as the presumed 4th line pivot will be out for the beginning of the season. I’ll update as I learn more.

From what I’ve heard is that Mair has been skating, doing the usual preparations for training camp.  Word has it that Mair had injured that hip at the end of last season, but fought through it and finished the season.  During his off-season training however it didn’t recover but rather got worse, forcing him to plan for surgery.  Now this is hearsay, but the Cowan signing was in direct response to the news that he would be missing time.

So what does that mean for the logjam at forward?  Well, in no way, shape, or form should Tim Kennedy be the 4th line pivot.  So, that leaves Cody McCormick, Jeff Cowan, or an entire depth chart move shake up to fill in the roster.  Expect a later post on the possibilities.
