Armchair GM Round 13 Picks: Shane O’Brien

September 8th, 2009 | by Vance |

My plan was to always goon up the 4th line of this team.  Why? Why not.  I began that process by selecting Shane O’Brien, the left handed defensemen of Vancouver, to become a prominent pugilist on this team.  Not much of anything stats wise, as he only recorded 10 points (all assists) last season.

His value lies in the foil fixed between his knuckles.  In 77 games last season, 1 in Tampa and 76 in Vancouver, O’Brien managed to log 196 PIMs.  48 minors, 10 majors, 4 misconducts, and 1 gross misconduct.  All in all a good season of work for a guy like him.

He’s now the 5th D-man on the roster, so look for the onus to be back on filling out the 3rd and 4th forward lines.

Also I’d like to say I wish I could post more Sabres news, but there’s just nothing really going on.  Word around town is that Stafford is signed but not announced (about the 3rd time we’ve heard this?), while Mike Peca is angling to get signed by GMDR.  With the rookies set to hit the ice today, hopefully we’ll get some more news shortly, maybe even a video or seven.
