Nate Gerbe Recalled
December 9th, 2009 | by Vance |I guess Darcy, Lindy and co. heard the boos from Monday night, as some lackluster play finally forced their hand. Nate Gerbe has been recalled from Portland and will presumably be in the lineup tonight against the Capitals.
So far this season Gerbe has 20 points (5 G, 15 A) in 23 games for the Pirates. This move is obviously a response to the lack of effort the last couple games, not saying that Gerbe is the answer here, but when either Sekera or Paetsch is inserted into the lineup as a forward, it’s just a waste of a roster spot and completely eliminates the effectiveness of the 4th forechecking line.
In what world is playing a defensemen 8 minutes on the 4th line a better option than calling up an effective AHL player? Not mine. Of course, seeing as how we’re a “fiscally responsible” franchise, that probably actually means that Andrej Sekera won’t be in the lineup and Paetsch will be going back to defense.
