Olympians Throughout the Sabres Roster
December 30th, 2009 | by Vance |While we wait for today’s Noon announcement of Team Canada, as well as the post-Winter Classic unveiling of Team USA, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the 3 other Olympians suiting up for the Blue and Gold on a nightly basis.
For Team Sweden, the resurgent (thanks Tyler Myers) Henrik Tallinder gets the nod to play for the defending gold medal team from Turin. He was not selected for the team back in 2006. This season Hank has 2 goals to go along with 8 assists and a +8 rating, averaging almost 20 minutes per game.
For Team Finland, announced just this morning, Toni Lydman will be suiting up with his Scandinavian brothers. Part of the Silver medal team from 2006, Lydman has a goal and 4 assists with a +7 rating, skating upwards of 17 minutes a night.
Finally, Andrej Sekera has made the defensive roster for Team Slovakia. Even though he’s bounced around; forward and defense, in and out of the lineup, the 23 year old blueliner will be playing alongside the likes of Chara in Vancouver. Sekera’s put up 2 goals and 4 assists with an even rating, skating almost 18 minutes a contest.
